A manual of Islamic beliefs and practice volume 2
This book "A manual by Islamic beliefs and practice" is written by Ali Muhammed Naqvi and Kalbe Sadiq Naqvi, in two volumes. This book is volume 2 of the series. The purpose in compiling these works is to provide a comprehensive treatment of all aspects of the practical spirituality of this Islamic school, in such a way as to provide a guide and a reference for those who follow the way of the Twelve Imams, peace be upon them. The first volume covered the theology, the ethics, and the law, while this second volume contains a selection of the most widely used items in Shi'i devotional literature. This volume is based in part on Tubfat al-Awwim (in Urdu), but extensive use has also been made of Mafātih al-Jinān, perhaps the most popular book of prayers for the Shĩ'a. Although one or two of the prayers in this volume were translated by the editor, for the most part use has been made of translations already in existence, most notably of parts of the translations by William C. Chittick of ALŞabifat al- Sajādiyya, and his translations of other duà's. Some of the translations have been edited to attain a degree of conformity of expression, but no substantial changes have been made, so the reader's indulgence is requested for the wide variety of styles in the English parts of this work. For reasons to do with the presentation of the text, some of the longer supplications in the section on the religious calendar have been provided at the end of the book in an appendix, and their location marked in the text.
