A PROBE INTO THE HISTORY OF ASHURA
The events leading to Imam Hussain’s strong stance against the cruel rule and tyranny of Yazid commence since the days when Yazid’s father Amir-e-Shaam was at the helm. Before his death, Amir-e-Shaam begins obtaining the oath of allegiance for Yazid as the next leader of Muslims. At last, things take such a turn that if Imam Hussain (AS) does not stand up and reveal the true face of Yazid, all traces of Islam will be obliterated, the pain taken by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will be wasted and Islam will not survive. The root cause of all these events is the meeting at Saqifa after the demise of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
