Deewan-e-Khuwaja Hafiz Shirazi
Khwāja Shams-ud-Dīn Muḥammad Ḥāfeẓ Shīrāzī (c. 1315–1390) was one of the greatest Persian poets and a towering figure of Islamic literary and spiritual tradition. He was born in Shiraz, Iran, and was a Hafiz of the Qur’an (one who memorized the Qur’an), which deeply influenced his poetry. His famous work, the Diwan-e-Hafiz, blends Qur’anic imagery, Islamic ethics, Sufi spirituality, and philosophical reflection. Through symbols such as wine, the beloved, the tavern, and the nightingale, Hafiz expressed themes of divine love, inner freedom, moral integrity, and the hypocrisy of false piety.
