EARLY SHIA THOUGHT
Imam Muhammad Baqir (AS) plays a pivotal role in the development of Islamic thought in its early formative period and spreads knowledge of Islamic law and religious practices. In an environment where differences within the community focus on who has the right to rule, Imam Baqir elaborates the concept of Imamat. It is significant as many come to believe that Imamat is a bid to claim political power. He says Imamat does not depend on Khuruj (rising) of the Imam. He also emphasises that Imamat, like prophethood, is divinely ordained and Imam is endowed with Ilm (knowledge) and is extremely pious, away from all sins. This book presents a systematic account of the life and teachings of Imam Baqir.
