Nasikh al-Tawarikh is a Persian historical chronicle written by the 19th-century historian Mirza Muhammad Taqi Sepehr during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar in Qajar Iran. The work compiles earlier Islamic historical sources and presents biographies of important figures in Islamic history. One of its sections, Zindagani-e-Imam Ali, focuses on the life, virtues, and historical role of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad. The section “Zindagani-e-Imam Ali” is divided into six parts and narrates different phases of Imam Ali’s life. It begins with his lineage, birth, and early upbringing in the household of the Prophet. The next part describes his close relationship with the Prophet, his early acceptance of Islam, and his role during the Prophet’s mission in Mecca and Medina. Another section highlights his bravery and contributions in major events and battles during the formative years of Islam. The book then discusses the period following the demise of the Prophet and the political circumstances faced by Imam Ali. It further explains his caliphate, administrative approach, and the internal conflicts that arose during his rule.
