ORIGINS AND EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF SHIA ISLAM
In this book, the author undertakes a reassessment of the origins and development of Shia Islam. He makes an attempt to trace out and reconstruct those earliest tendencies and ideas which give the Shia Islam its distinctive characteristic. On the question of religious leadership, the discussion largely concentrates on Shia response to the matter, from its origins among a group of early Muslims until the Imamat of Jafar-e-Sadiq (AS). The book highlights the conceptual foundations and the decision taken in Saqifa on making the Khalifa of Muslims after the death of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It sheds light on Shia activities in Kofa and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) in Karbala. How Muslims react to the incident of Karbala, and the Imamat of Jafar-e-Sadiq (AS) are also discussed.
