The Last Days Of British Rule
The Last Days of the British Raj by Leonard Mosley is a historical account of the tumultuous final year of British rule in India (1946–1947), exploring the political drama, decisions, and personalities that shaped the end of the Raj. Mosley offers a detailed narrative of how leaders like Lord Mountbatten, Nehru, and Jinnah navigated escalating communal tensions, the breakdown of negotiations, and the rushed decision to partition India and Pakistan. He critiques British administrative blunders and suggests that greater patience might have prevented the violence and chaos that accompanied independence and partition. The book blends political analysis with firsthand details, portraying both strategic failures and human consequences.
