Zanjeer, Qama O Aag per matam
Zanjeer, Qama, aur Aag par Matam by Professor Zain-ul-Abideen is a research-based defense of traditional forms of azadari, including zanjeer zani, qama zani, and matam on fire. The author argues that these practices are grounded in historical continuity and deep emotional expression of grief for Imam Hussain (AS). Drawing on classical Shia sources, jurisprudential discussions, and supporting fatwas, he rejects claims that such practices are innovations. In the concluding sections, the author substantiates matam and aag par matam through examples of intense grief shown by the Prophets, demonstrating that extreme physical expressions of sorrow have precedent in sacred history and are valid manifestations of devotion and mourning.
